Description
Photograph a tree near you, then swap its bark for flaky pastry â laminated layers, golden, fresh out of the oven. The trick: it still has to look like THAT tree. About 45 minutes.
Every challenge has its own word â it's your entry signature, so the piece is clearly made fresh for this one. This challenge's word is BUTTER.
Steps
- Photograph a tree with visible bark, with a handwritten note showing the word BUTTER resting against the trunk. This is your "before".
- Replace the bark with croissant texture â buttery, flaky, layered.
- Follow the tree's form: layers bend around curves and knots, texture sits in the shadows and splits of the original bark. It should look baked on, not pasted over.
- Add one small detail that sells it â a confused bird, a baker's hand, crumbs on the grass.
What to Submit
Before and after images (BUTTER note visible in both), plus one close-up crop of the texture. In the notes:
tree name | e.g. "The Butter Oak"
sold it | <the small detail you added>
â ī¸ Important
- Hand-made only â no AI. If AI is part of how you work, skip this one.
- Same tree, same framing, your photos.
- Texture follows the trunk's form â no flat overlay.
Make sure you can deliver before claiming â you're committing to complete it.
