⚡ Get a Lightning Wallet, Get Paid on SatsBoard

1. What am I actually setting up?

A wallet is an app that holds your bitcoin, like M-Pesa holds money but it's bitcoin and no company owns your balance. A Lightning address is that wallet's receive address. You paste it into SatsBoard once, and payments land in your wallet automatically. You never type a card, bank account, or ID anywhere in this guide.

• Bitcoin (BTC) — internet money. No bank in the middle.
• Sat (satoshi) — the small unit of bitcoin. 100,000,000 sats = 1 BTC. Tasks here pay 500–2,000 sats.
• Lightning — bitcoin's fast lane. Payments arrive in seconds and the fees are near zero.
• Lightning address — your receive address, e.g. myname@wallet.com. Your login on SatsBoard too.

2. Pick a wallet (start with Cake Wallet)

All three below are free, work on a basic Android phone, and give you a Lightning address. Start with Cake if unsure.

• 🍰 Cake Wallet — recommended for new users. Install, tap through, done. Has its own address like yourname@cakewallet.com. cakewallet.com
• 💛 Blink (formerly Bitcoin Beach Wallet) — simplest of all, phone-number signup, address like yourname@blink.to. blink.sv
• 🪙 Coinos — no app install at all, works in the browser, username becomes your address username@coinos.io. coinos.io

Other wallets (Wallet of Satoshi, Phoenix, Muun) also work — if you already have one that shows a Lightning address, use it.

3. Cake Wallet setup, tap by tap

About 10 minutes, phone only.

1. Open cakewallet.com on your phone, or find Cake Wallet in the Play Store / App Store. Install it.
2. Open the app. Choose Create new wallet. Pick Bitcoin as the currency.
3. Tap through the "seed" screens — see section 5 below about the seed phrase before you tap "I understand".
4. On the main screen, tap the ▼ account selector at the top (it says "Bitcoin (BTC)") and switch to the Lightning account if you see one; otherwise stay on Bitcoin — either can receive.
5. Find your Lightning address: look for a "Lightning Address" or @cakewallet.com entry on the Receive screen (tap Receive at the bottom). It's shaped like yourname@cakewallet.com.
6. Write that address down exactly — copy it or screenshot it. That's what you paste into SatsBoard.

Can't find the Lightning address in Cake? Use Receive → Lightning Address, or switch to the wallet list and enable the Lightning account. If your app version has none, Blink (above) has it front and center instead.

4. Use it on SatsBoard

1. Log in with your Lightning address — it's both your username and where payments go. No password, no email, no ID.
2. Claim a task from the board.
3. Do the work, open the submit page. The Lightning Address field: paste your address. Double-check it letter for letter — a wrong address pays a stranger.
4. Submit. When the admin approves, sats arrive in your wallet, usually within a day.

5. The seed phrase — the one thing that must be secret

When the wallet is created it shows 12–24 words. Those words ARE the wallet. Anyone who reads them can take your money; lose them and your money is gone forever with no password reset.

• Write the words on paper, not a screenshot, not a chat message, not email.
• Keep the paper somewhere only you can find it.
• Never type the seed words into any website, app, or message — SatsBoard will never ask for them. Anyone asking for your seed is stealing.

6. Turning sats into cash (when you want to)

You can hold bitcoin, spend it, or swap it to local money:

• In-app swap: Cake Wallet and Blink both have built-in "sell / swap" screens (in many regions, straight to M-Pesa or bank). Look for Sell, Swap, or Convert in the wallet menus.
• Gift cards & airtime: services like Bitrefill let you exchange bitcoin for airtime, data bundles, or shopping vouchers — useful where bank payouts are hard. bitrefill.com
• Local exchange: in many towns someone trades bitcoin for cash in person or via M-Pesa; ask in a local bitcoin community group first and deal only with people others vouch for.

7. When something goes wrong

• Payment didn't arrive: wait a few minutes, then open the wallet and pull-to-refresh on the transaction list. Lightning payments are fast but app refresh isn't always.
• "Invalid Lightning address" on SatsBoard: re-copy it from the wallet's Receive screen. Common typos: swapping letters in the username, missing @, missing .com / .to / .io ending.
• Tapped "restore" instead of "create": that's for loading an old wallet's seed words. New user? Close it and create fresh.
• Someone asks for your seed words, PIN, or a "verification payment": it's a scam, always. No wallet, task board, or admin ever needs them.
